Philippine Missions for Jesus

God’s incredible mercy. “Issue No. 203”
October 20th, 2009

Psalm 136:1 “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.”

Matthew 5:7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be show mercy.

Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy
and find grace to help in time of need.”

Dear Friends,
Hi. Emie and I send you our warm greetings from the Philippines, in the name of our mutual Savior and Lord. “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”---Philemon 3. We pray that the Lord will strengthen & encourage you, and bless you in new and surprising ways---now, and in the New Year to come. “For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” ---Isaiah 41:13

The Scriptures at the top of this page, share about one of the greatest needs of mankind---God’s mercy. One Hebrew word for mercy used in the Bible that occurs 250 times is “Chesed”. It is defined as: Kindness, mercy, unfailing love; tenderness, faithfulness. Another word used for mercy in Romans 9:15 is: “eleeo” and it means: “ to show kindness and concern for someone in serious need, feel compassion for, have pity. Mercy is not merely a passive emotion, but an active desire to remove the cause of distress in others.”
Much of what we need to know about mercy is summed up in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we might be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort which we ourselves are comforted by.” We all have a great need to receive God’s mercy: His kindness, unfailing love, compassion, and forgiveness. In Luke 18:9-14 Jesus shares a parable about a proud Pharisee and a contrite Tax Collector. In vs. 13 it says the tax collector would not even raise his eyes to heaven but that he beat against his chest and said: “God be merciful to me a sinner!” The Bible says that he is the one whose prayer was answered.
And when we ourselves are the recipient of God’s mercy---we also need to be a people who show mercy to others as the Lord leads and anoints us to do so. When we give mercy and compassion we place ourselves in a position to receive even more mercy & compassion back.
There was an old song back in the 60’s in which part of the words were: “What the world needs now is love sweet love, that’s what there is just too little of…” and the words are true but they were directed incorrectly, as they were being sung in a secular sense. Because what the world needs now, is indeed love sweet love—but they need to realize pure agape love can only come from Jesus. And when the people in this world come to know Jesus in a real way---they begin to realize there is no limit to God’s mercy and love to us, because it is so large it is beyond measure.

Sixty-five years ago on this day, General MacArthur and the allied force landed on the coast of Leyte to begin the liberation of the Philippines from the Japanese Army. About 2 miles from where I live is a memorial park on the coast and the Filipinos have a major celebration every year in remembrance of that special date. On one of stone memorials there is written Mc Arthurs speech, starting with the words: “I have returned. By the grace of Almighty God, our forces stand again on Philippine soil…” He had made a promise to return and on the day of the allied forces landing in Leyte, Gen. Mac Arthur gave tribute to the Lord. The Philippines was liberated and shortly thereafter granted independence. I will be taking our kids there for part of the celebration. When I am there, one thing that stands out to me---are those words that apply so much to us all: { By The Grace Of Almighty God} because in our own lives, we truly stand by His grace.
Many of you may have noticed on the news about the recent Typhoons in Manila and Northern Luzon. These storms caused a lot of damage and many people lost their lives. There are predictions of a 3rd typhoon coming in but we are praying it will just be driven out to the ocean. In Region 8 we have avoided these storms so far this year. Three years ago we had a typhoon that seriously damaged one church and destroyed two churches. The 1 was repaired and the other 2 had new church buildings constructed. All of the church members were safe.
Last month I shared how Emie and I had met a very sick teen-age street boy and taken him into our home. He was very malnourished and had open sores on part of his neck which we thought were fungal in nature but turned out to be quite different. When we were able to get a full exam for him, we discovered he had acute Tuberculosis, there is so much in the lungs that it spreads and breaks out on the skin. I had not see that before and since he was not coughing ( the Doctor says they lose their ability to cough) I did not suspect TB. He only weighed 70 lbs, and that was after 3 weeks of 3 meals a day at our mission’s house and compound.
We found a Christian missions group who works with street kids and had helped him once before and they are now helping with the medical prescriptions and the medical bills at the public hospital which we recently had to take him to have a cyst removed along with 1.5+ pints fluid. He is recovering and we should be bringing him back to our mission’s compound in 2 or 3 days. As he is under strong medication for the TB he should not be infectious currently. It has been some risk in having him here but he has been isolated most of the time. It is not always easy or convenient in helping take care of a street boy with these complications but I believe we have helped save his life and perhaps as he gets hopefully healed completely---perhaps God will use him in a special way. All things are possible with God. Please pray for Randy, that the Lord’s best will become reality in his life.
Last Thursday I felt led by the Lord to send a financial donation to a Christian named Aggrey Abwonza who lives in Kenya, Africa. I had met him there last April during my ministry there. He is working in Nairobi as a dental tech. and holding Bible studies and desires to pioneer a church there. The donation was unexpected and amounted to 3,000 Kenyan shillings or about $45. I got an email back from him and he was happy and thankful.
“Hi brother Gordon, Glory to God our Savior, His love never fails, Brother every week on Thursday I am usually in prayers (FASTING), today my prayer request was financial breakthrough and see what Jehovah God has done, It is a testimony!! May the Lord who led you into sending this donation bless you and let Him extend your boundaries according to His will, be blessed together with your entire family, may the Lord bless your ministry too…” [ I had thought about waiting till the next day to send it, but I felt led to make an effort to send that day and drove downtown in early evening (which was early afternoon in Kenya) and sent it Western Union and Aggrey received an answer to his prayer to God for that day. God is good; and it’s a blessing to be a blessing.
This month we had pastors and church workers from 20 churches stay at our mission’s compound for 3 days for our monthly meeting. They attended a seminar in Tacloban about training church members to help evangelize and train new Christians to more fruitfully and effectively serve the lord. All basic areas of ministry are doing well here and we praise the Lord for that.
God bless you all who are actively partnering with us in the ministry here and other parts of the world. We are very thankful for your prayers, encouragement, financial investments in the ministry outreaches, and friendship. We are confident that the Lord will reward your faithfulness.
In God’s love,
Gordon & Emie
P.S. Please continue to pray for the Lord’s anointing, clear guidance, protection, good health, financial provision, and abundant fruitfulness in the ministry--- for more people to be saved and trained to faithfully serve the Lord. Thanks.

God Loves You! “Issue No. 202
September 20th, 2009
Nothing can separate you from the love of God

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all,
How shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers
nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth,
nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us
from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord!”
Romans 8:31-32 & 38-39

“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren”
I John 3:16

Dear Friends,
Greetings to you in the wonderful name of our mutual Savior & Lord--Jesus Christ. Emie and I pray that the Lord will fill you with His love and reward and uniquely bless you these final months of this year and decade. Thank-you so very much for your Holy Spirit led prayers, encouragement, & financial investments in helping us reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ that saves & transforms the lives of people all over the world.
“May God give you more and more mercy, peace, and love.” Jude 2 NLT

Who is my neighbor?
About 3 weeks ago Emie and I were at downtown Tacloban by the post office and as we were getting in the van and about to drive off, a teen-age street kid began knocking on the van window begging for money. We help people in various ways but we also use wisdom in when and how we help. In this young boy’s case, he was dirty, he had terrible looking open sores on his neck and appeared to be very weak. He needed more than just some pesos given to him. I asked Emie to tell him to stay in that area and that we would go to the Pharmacy and get some medicine for him and come back and also get him a good meal, etc.

When we came back and asked him to walk across the street he was not even in good enough shape to do so by himself. Emie walked across the street to give him medicine but when she saw more clearly his condition she came to the same conclusion that had just entered my mind---and she helped him across the street and we put him in the van and we took him to our home. We both had the feeling that he perhaps would not live if unattended.

His back was bent over some as he walked and we learned later it was due to an injury after being kicked in the small of his back by a police officer when he had been sleeping on the streets. The young boy’s name is Randy and he is 15 years old. It is hard to talk with him as he can hardly hear, but we found out that he came from a village in Samar, his mother had left for Manila for work and he had not heard from her anymore---and his father was in prison.
Randy has been with us since that time three weeks ago. He has had 3 good meals a day,
medical treatment, and been living here and sleeping here in safety. He has improved a lot but is still weak and needs total healing. He is able to read in Filipino and has been reading the Bible quite often. Please pray for God’s complete healing and that the Lord will one day use him in a special way in ministry. {None of us can help everybody, but all of us can help somebody, and as a team together--- as led by the Lord, we can help many neighbors such as Randy.}
I John 3:17-18 “But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.”
In our Sunday morning radio broadcasts (8:30-9:00) we are continuing to see salvations,
and are hearing from many Christians who are encouraged and helped by the messages that we share. That broadcast reaches thousands of people throughout Region 8, the islands of Biliran, Leyte, and Samar. Each week we are receiving text messages from people who say their lives are being touched in positive ways by the broadcast messages. We have people attending the church here in Tacloban who were saved as a result of the radio ministry. Please continue to pray for God’s blessing and anointing on these important broadcasts.
We had our monthly pastors meeting last week and when the reports were turned in and the average weekly attendance was totaled for all the churches it exceeded more than 900 men, women, and children in attendance. As we have shared in the past, 90% of these people are people who have come to know Jesus as their Savior & Lord though our various evangelistic outreaches. Region 8 remains the least evangelized region in the Philippines where statistically only 1 to 2 percent are born again Christians, yet we continue to see God touching the hearts of people here and lives being transformed.
Last Saturday at the Children’s feeding & ministry outreach in a small village, over 80 children attended. The children in this poor country village are very attentive to the sharing of God’s word, and they are learning many praise & worship songs to sing to the Lord. / Our Tacloban youth often have 35-50 youth attending the evening service at our ministry rooms at the downtown Astrodome and are excited to serve the Lord. / We have 4 young people attending a 5 month Bible School and 3 youth who are attending Bible college. We also have discipleship classes for 13 men and women at the Tacloban Church and they are being more and more helpful to us in the ministry outreaches. Please pray for the children, teen-agers, and young adults, and adults---to all become increasingly solid in their faith---and faithful & fruitful in their service to the Lord.
On the family front we just celebrated the triplets (Faith, Hope and Joy) 4th birthday party on Sept. 18th and they were excited,--- my 62nd birthday on the 15th, and Hugh’s 8th birthday last August on the 28th. The kids are doing well over all and are very energetic. Gracia will be 10 next month and then no more birthdays for us for the rest of the year. Psalm 127:3 “Son’s are a heritage from the Lord, Children a reward from Him.”
We pray the Lord continues to be with you in incredible ways and truly grants you the desires of your heart. May He strengthen you and encourage you and use you to help advance the Kingdom of God.
Thanks again for your kindness and faithfulness in helping us to reach new people for Jesus. God bless you greatly.
In Christ’s love,
Gordon & Emies
P.S. Please pray for Emie and me, for the Lord to renew our strength and bless our health and assign for us some rest and short vacation time. We both are somewhat tired and desire to be filled with fresh wisdom, insight, restoration, and renewal by the Holy Spirit. Also please pray for all the pastors and other ministry workers who are with us. We still need your prayers for us to have a fresh anointing, powerful protection, grace, and all else needed for all areas of our lives and ministries.
Financial: We could use some help. Please pay for the Lord to open the windows of heaven and supply all our monthly need according to His Riches in Glory---by Christ Jesus. We are helping 17 churches and in many other good areas. Thanks and God bless you always.

Our God Is Able! Issue No. 201
August 17th, 2009

Hebrews 7:25 “Therefore He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

Jude 1:24 “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of glory with exceeding joy,

2 Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.”

Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,
to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen”

Dear Friends,
A warm hello to you from Emie and me--- and we continue to pray for God’s help, guidance, encouragement, and tailor-made blessings to you—as you seek the Lord and faithfully serve Him. The Bible says: “…and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” ---Hebrews 6:10b & “…may they always say: ‘The Lord be exalted, Who delights in the well being of His servant.’” –Psalm 35:27b

I believe that to all of us, having good friendships is important and a great encouragement and help our lives. Our personal friends are always much appreciated and special to us, and as Christians---for all of us, there is One Friend Who stands out above all the rest. The old Scriptural song says: “What a friend we have in Jesus”---and how true a statement that is. Jesus is a Friend: who will never leave you nor forsake you, a Friend who is always with you, He sticks closer than a brother, is the wisest Friend in all the earth and always has the best advice for you, He loves you unconditionally, is patient with you, a Friend who was willing to die for you (and did), and Who is alive today to walk & talk with you and listen to you, and a Friend Who will encourage you, support you, and protect you. Truly---What a Friend We Have In Jesus.
“Greater love has no one that this, than to lay one’s life down for his friends.” –John 15:13
“… I have called you friends…” John 15:15c ---JESUS
Good times, bad times and in between times---Jesus is always there for each of us.
[“…I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”] --Matthew 28:20b

JESUS CAME TO SAVE THE LOST

I would like to share a testimony with you. Thirty years ago I knew a man whose life almost came to an end at an early age. This individual in High School had scored 2nd highest in his class on the National Merit Scholarship Exam, won the chess championship for his High School, was President of the local FFA chapter, and President of the Luther League at his church. He went on to attend & graduate from Western Washington State College (now a University) and was Speaker of the Legislature for the approximate 11,000 member student body there. He later acquired a Real Estate Broker’s license and from 1972-1980, at various times had owned and later sold: a 4 unit apartment complex in Bellingham, a beautiful lake lot on Cain lake in Whatcom county, a house in partnership in Olympia, two 5-unit apartment buildings and one 3 unit apartment building in Centralia.
As a Senior in High School he had survived a serious accident while sledding using a rubber raft with his cousin on the base of Mt. St. Helens, where he hit a tree and his back was broken and his left wrist bone shattered. He survived 3 automotive accidents where in each case the cars were totaled and he was just able to walk away. His life was also spared in a few other dangerous incidents. [ One thing working in his favor behind the scenes was a praying grandmother and praying mother.]
But in August of 1979 his life was in a shambles due to a fast paced life, excessive use of alcohol and use of drugs, and smoking 60 cigarettes a day, etc. The Bible refers to a people who were without hope and without God, and this 31year old man was certainly within that category.[ Jesus shares a story about a prodigal son who wasted his life and fortune and found himself feeding the pigs for a living and was so messed up that even the pig food was looking good to him. But the bible says in Luke 15:17 “when he came to his senses” he realized the best thing he could do is go back to his father, not even as a son anymore but just as a servant, yet when he returned, repentant and remorseful---his father greeted him with love and restored him as a son.]
The man I refer to in this real life testimony “Came to his senses” and realized that the only hope he had
was to return to the God of his youth. There is a song and some of the words are: Í have returned to the
God of my childhood, to the same simple faith as a child I once knew…” On August 27th 1979 at a phone call request, 2 Full Gospel Businessmen drove 30+ miles from Olympia to Chehalis (on business day) an shared in more detail the gospel of Jesus Christ to this man---and on that Monday morning, Gordon Joseph Kalich returned to the God of his childhood, and prayed wholeheartedly for God’s forgiveness for his sins and asked Jesus to be his Savior and Lord. It was the best decision I ever made and the greatest day of my life so far.
On the 2nd day of my salvation I sensed the damage that had been done to me in the years of alcohol and drug use and I prayed to God: “If You will put me back together again, I will go anywhere in the world you want me to go—and I will share about Jesus to the people.” God put me back together, (which was considered a miracle by many people who knew me) and I have done my best though what will be 30 years this August 27th to serve the Lord and to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. In following years I was active in an established church, in the local Full Gospel Businessmen’s Chapter, did some prison ministry, helped pioneer a new church, and made 2 foreign mission trips.
In 1992 in response to the leading of God, I sold most of my possessions and took a step of faith and obedience to travel to the Philippines---to share the gospel, to help strengthen and encourage fellow Christians through God’s Scriptures, and to help the poor as led by the Holy Spirit. During these years I have also been able to minister in China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Africa.
God provided for me many good friends and mentors through these thirty years and I thank all of you who have helped me through the years. And since 1992 God has faithfully supplied the need of the ministry outreaches though touching the hearts of Christians with a heart for evangelism and missions---to help my wife Emie and me and all the pastors of our now 17 churches---help evangelize the lost, and help disciple and train new Christian workers, and to help the poor in a variety of ways. To each of you I once again extend my and Emie’s heartfelt gratitude and appreciation: for your friendship, prayers, encouragement, and financial investments in God’s work through the ministry outreaches. Many people have come to know Jesus as their Savior & Lord as a result of your partnership with us and the ministries here. God reward & bless you always.
As long as we live, we will do our best to share the life saving-life changing---gospel of Jesus Christ.
In Christ’s love,
Gordon & Emie
P.S. All areas of the ministries are doing well overall, and we will share more in detail next newsletter. Please continue to pray for God’s fresh anointing upon us, for His blessings on all our health, for His powerful protection, for God to touch the hearts of more prayer warriors to intercede for us, and for the Lord to continue with His love and grace---to touch the hearts of people to donate the finances that are such an important help to us sharing the gospel and reaching people for Jesus. Thanks very much.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY! ISSUE NO. 198
MAY 20th, 2009

PSALM 146:5 NIV “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them---the Lord, who remains faithful forever.”

LUKE 2:14 AMP Glory to God in the highest [heaven], and on earth peace among men on whom He is well pleased [men of goodwill, of His favor].

JUDE 24-25 NKJ “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to God our Savior, Who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.”

Dear Friends,
Warm greetings to you in the name of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Emie and I pray the Lord will grant you the desires of your heart and bring incredible and surprising blessings upon you this year of your life and in the years to come---as you faithfully love and follow Him. But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” ---I CO 2:9

This month we enter into the beginning of the 18th year of the ministry outreaches of Eternal Life Ministries International. In the past 17 years, as we have shared the gospel of Jesus Christ [Mark 16:15], we have been blessed to see many people come to know Jesus as their Savior & Lord. In preaching and teaching God’s word [Matthew 28:19-20], we have seen hundreds of Christians strengthened and encouraged in their faith and service to the Lord. By giving to the poor in a variety of ways [Isaiah 58:10-11]: food, medicine, cloths, and other helps---we have seen people’s lives blessed in the name of Jesus; and also seen many of them come to receive Jesus and their Savior & Lord. We thank God so very much for the honor of serving Him and give Him all the glory for the many people’s lives He has touched as we simply shared His love with others.

Once again, Emie and I would also like to express our thanks to you for your important and special help through your prayers, encouragement, and financial investments in God’s work through the ministry outreaches. We greatly appreciate your friendship to us and partnership in the ministry. As I have shared in the past, much of the success in missions work is the combined result---of positively responding to the call & leading of God---- and the faithful partnership between those who are willing to go and those who are willing to help send. You have helped us lead many men, woman, teen-agers and children to pray and receive Jesus as their Savior and Lord. We always pray for God’s best blessings for you and trust Him to reward you. As you have helped people in other parts of the world receive Christ---we pray God the Father will touch the lives of many of your friends and relatives that you have been praying for---and may He bring them to know Jesus as their Savior & Lord.
[So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” ---Acts 16:31]
While I was ministering in Africa [which I will share a little more about later in this newsletter], the ministry in the Philippines was expanding. Our local church in Tacloban grew by significantly and particularly in the youth group. Emie would like to share a few words about the youth:

Dear Partners
Greetings to you from Tacloban City, Philippines! Allow me to share what God is doing to our youth ministries. As pastors, we have been praying to God that He will raise up: “Soul Winners committed to bring hope and transformation to the families, communities, cities, and regions beyond….”

For the past few months God has been changing the lives of the young people. In 2 recent youth camps, (one in Leyte and one in Biliran Island) we made a sacrificial investment in sponsoring students so they could attend camp. It was worth sponsoring the young people because they came back with fire, focus, and freed from sin that entangled them. The youth is now growing spiritually and in quantity; and the Lord has put compassion in their hearts because they now have passion for God. They are now reaching out to the youth who are involved with drugs and other vices. We are blessed to see them changing and soul winning youth for Christ.

I want you to know that your partnership in the gospel ministry will not be in vain. One soul that came to know God is worth more then all the riches on earth. Thank-you for your help, prayer, and partnership with God and Eternal Life Ministries. The Lord reward you generously.” Love, Emie

Regarding my missions trip to Africa, I was able to minister in 30 meetings in my combined 34 days in Kenya and D.R. Congo. During the church services, crusades, seminars, conferences, and small leadership meetings---many people’s lives were touched in special ways by the Lord. I shared His word as led by the Holy Spirit and I received many positive testimonies from individuals about how God encouraged and blessed their lives during our meetings. As I shared from my heart some of the truths the Lord has given me over the past 17 years of missions work and because I was also blessed to have the prayer support of many people in the States, the Philippines, and other countries---God moved in special ways in most of these meetings. We praise & thank the Lord for this fruitful and positive mission’s trip to Africa. Many people would like to have me come back next year and they would also like me to bring Emie, but I shared with them it may be 2 years before we could come again. It depends on the Lord’s leading, timing, and provision.

On my scheduled return flight from Kenya to Thailand to the Philippines, as I went to the check in counter I found out that my flight had been canceled. I was uncertain how that was going to work out but I texted a message to Emie from Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” I also sent that scripture to myself and quoted it to the lady at the check in counter. After about 40 minutes a Kenyan airlines representative came to me with a whole new flight plan that went from Nairobi, Kenya to Dubai, United Arab Emirates and then to Manila, Philippines from there.

As I was filling out the forms to exit Kenya and to go to the boarding area I noticed 6 Muslim men in white robes, caps and beards who were also apparently going on the same flight. One of the older men with kind of a strange look in his eyes-when we were in the waiting area prior to boarding the plane---he was chanting some sort of prayer out loud and I was kind of hoping they did not have any unusual plans for the flight that night. When I boarded the plane my seatmate was a Pakistan military man who worked with a United Nations force in Congo and we became friends and had a long and good conversation about Christianity and the Muslim faith. His name is Jimi Kahn and he happened to make note of the 6 robed Muslim men and indicated they were simply very religious people and not dangerous. I found that reassuring as I later went to use the bathroom and one of the white robbed Muslim men was bowing down in the isle and chanting some prayer to Ala. It was an interesting flight and we got to Dubai just fine and after making the connecting flight, I arrived in Manila 3 hours earlier then if I would have been able to take the flight that had originally been scheduled via Thailand but had been canceled. [God worked it out for good.]

We continue to pray for all of you who receive this newsletter and believe God to bless, strengthen, and encourage you. Thanks again for your faithful partnership in helping us to share the gospel and lead new people to Jesus. In Christ’s love, Gordon & Emie

P.S. Please pray: That in this 18th year of ministry outreaches, God will grant us strength, wisdom, knowledge, fresh anointing, excellent health, abundant provision for all the works of the ministry, special protection, and all else needed to faithfully, effectively, and fruitfully serve the Lord and share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Finances: We have need for some extra financial help at this time for the ministry outreaches. Please pray for the Lord to touch the hearts of a few people who have the ability and willingness to give special donations at this time. Also please pray and ask the Lord if He would have you give a special gift at this time. Thanks and God bless you always. [2 CO 9:8 “And God is able to make all grace abound towards you ,that you, always having sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.”]

African Mission - Gordon Kalich - ELMI -Kenya

AFRICAN MISSIONS BLOG #1
ETERNAL LIFE MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL
Missionary-Evangelists: Gordon & Emie Kalich
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” ---John 3:16 [Please continue to pray for the anointing, protection and provision for us to powerfully and effectively share the gospel and lead people to Jesus.]

Dear Friends,
Greetings from Africa, it is my prayer that God will continue to bless, encourage, and strengthen all of you who read this news blog. God promises He has a good plan for your life which offers you a future and a hope. And Jesus said in John 10:10b: “…I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly.”
In the past few days I and the pastors I am working with, have been blessed to see dozens of African men, women, and children pray and receive Jesus as their Savior and Lord during the village crusades where I am preaching in the outlying part of Kakamega, Kenya. We have had a large percentage of men come forward in these gospel sharing meetings and many of them came to my sponsor’s church service yesterday for the Sunday service on April 5th.

From 4-1 to 4-5 I was privileged to minister 13 times in Seminar meetings, crusades, a city wide church fasting and prayer gathering, and the church service. Today, Monday, April 6th we drove about an hour, much of it on dirt roads and some more like a cattle trail. Pastor James Mabwa and I---spoke to a small church in the outlying farmland area. A few pastors from other churches attended and even though it was a small group, the presence of the Lord was there in a special way and the people’s lives were blessed as we shared from God’s word and testimonies of how the Lord has specifically touched certain people’s lives.

I first arrived at the in Kenya Africa on March 17th and ministered to churches in the modernized capital city of Nairobi for a few days. Then on April 25th, I flew to Lubumbashi, D.R. Congo to visit missionary friends Pastor Felicilda and his wife Rhory (who are from the Philippines). They are being used by God to train & equip Christians and have taken leadership over a dying church there that was down to only 2 members a year ago and are now approximately 100 attending, counting the men, women, and children. I was able to minister to some of the churches there and was the guest speaker to their graduating class of 1st year Bible School students. The conditions in the Congo are much less advanced than in Kenya. One example in that here is not one ATM machine in the whole country, there is a lot more corruption, and complications in entering the country.

If you read the Lonely Planet’s travel guide commentary, one of their statements in [Introducing Democratic Rebublic of Congo]is: “…the country remains closed to all but the most brave-hearted travelers. The nation’s history reads something out of Dante’s Inferno…” The U.S. Governments comments for American Citizens in regards to going to the D.R. Congo are also not too encouraging. However, I personally found the trip to be safe--- and it was a blessing to be used by the Lord to share encouraging and exhorting Bible based messages that were really appreciated by the people who the Lord opened the door for me to minister to. It was a fruitful trip and I am willing to go back again in the future as the Lord leads.
I am scheduled to minister in the Western Kenya area of Kakamega until the 16th and on the 17th I am scheduled to fly back to the capitol city of Nairobi and minister there for 3 days and then fly back on April 21st to Thailand and then the Philippines.
In the Philippines, my wife Emie has said they are experiencing revival and that many good things are happening in the ministry outreaches. I will share more about that in a future blog.
My wife and I are in contact by phone as I am in Africa and she is in the Philippines and we continue to pray for all who receive our written monthly newsletter and all who receive this blog-letter/commentary. May the Lord richly bless you always and may His encouragement and strength and joy---touch your life in a special way today and in the weeks to come.
In Christ’s love,
Gordon & Emie
P.S. Please continue to pray for what was requested at the top of this newsletter. Also please pray for God to raise up 100+ new ministry intercessory prayer partners to help lift us up in fervent and effective prayer. If you know of sincere and effective Christian prayer intercessors who you think might be willing to help back us in prayer, please forward this blog-letter to them and ask them to prayerfully consider doing so. Powerful, faithful, and effective prayer support is extremely helpful in all missions and ministry work. Thanks for your help in this area.
In regards to financial investments to help us in the outreaches that are bringing new people to Jesus, we simply ask for readers to pray for the Lord to touch new people’s hearts to help in giving finances as led by the Lord. And on a personal basis, please just pray to the Lord for guidance to see if He leads you to help in some way. If the Lord does speak to you to invest to help us share the gospel to the lost and to strengthen and encourage fellow Christians in their faith and service to the Lord---financial contributions can be sent to Eternal Life Ministries Int’l, POB 413, Chehalis, WA. 98532 USA; and for those who use Pay Pal, to: elmigordonkalich@yahoo.com In the United States, contributions are tax-deductable as allowed by law. Thanks once more and God bless you always.

Philippine Missions for Jesus leaves for Aferica

“Preach the gospel to all...” Issue No. 196
March 15th, 2009

Proverbs 24:11&12 Deliver those who are drawn towards death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Surely we did not know this,” does not He who weights the heart consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?

Matthew 4:16 “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region of and shadow of death light has dawned.”

Revelation 7:9&10 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
Dear Friends,
Once again, Emie and I send you our warm greetings from the Philippines. We continue to pray for God’s unique and special blessings upon you, your families, and ministries (in all areas of your lives and callings) ---as you faithfully serve Him. Dt. 28:2
We also would like to express our thanks and appreciation to each of you who are praying for us and the ministry, encouraging us, and investing financially in God’s work through the ministry outreaches here and other parts of the world. We trust the Lord to reward and bless you for your partnership in helping us to lead people to Jesus, encourage and exhort Christians in their faith and service to the Lord, and help the poor in a variety of ways as led by the holy Spirit.
Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory, by Christ Jesus.”

At various time in our lives, all of us are able to give words of encouragement to people. When our words and advice are based on Biblical wisdom and truth---these words have power and can have a very positive effect upon some people’s lives. Yesterday as Emie and I were going downtown to take care of some things in preparation for my missions trip to Africa---we discovered the lasting results of an encouraging word Emie gave in 1993 to a small congregation which we spoke to in a remote village on the island of Leyte.
Please allow me some time to share the background. In 1993 we had been driving for about one hour Emie’s 50cc Yamaha motorcycle (the only transportation we had for the first 3 years of ministry). We were looking for a church we had never been to in the farmland areas close to San Miguel, Leyte. As we did not know exactly where the church was (it was one from Emie’s previous church organization that we had an open invitation to go and preach any time we were available--just show up) and as we asked people on the rough gravel road for directions we ended up at a different church. It was not the church we had planned on going to but the elders there we really happy that we had shown up and invited us to preach as their Senior Pastor was out of the area that day. As it was late and there was no more time to find the Faith Tabernacle Church we were first looking for we agreed to preach there. (Incidentally, we went to the church we were originally looking for a few weeks later and I got my dress shoes totally submerged in mud & water on the remote trail to that church which was located back on the edge of the jungle. We did have a wonderful service there.)
Now back to the church God brought us to. As Emie shared in the Sunday School service she gave an encouraging message which impacted a young man who was the associate pastor in a special way. He got up and gave a testimony of how he had been very discouraged in the ministry and had planned to abandon the ministry and announce his resignation that very day, and go to Manila to look for work because of hardship and economic difficulties in the ministry. He then shared with the congregation how the Lord re-ignited his commitment and compassion to serve that day. We saw him over the next couple of years and knew he was still serving the Lord. Since then we had not seen him for over 13 years—but yesterday when I was getting one of the van’s tires filled with air, a man walks close to our van, and with a smile on his face asked: “Hi, do you remember me?” It was Edwin, the man who had been encouraged about 16 years earlier when we showed up at a church that we were not looking for but that God had guided us to. We gave him a ride downtown and talked with him on the way. Edwin is still actively serving the Lord today. “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.” Prov. 25:11
I share that testimony simply because sometimes we may think we have not had much positive impact even though we have tried to share the gospel, encourage people, and pray for them. I think the Lord would like to remind us all that there are probably several “Edwins” in all of our lives and though we have not heard back from some of them for years---one day you may well be pleasantly surprised when someone walks up to you and says “thanks”---“you were a great help and encouragement to me many years ago”.
Our friends from British Columbia, Carol & Beckie Van Dooren have been ministering in the Philippines for several weeks and will be returning to Canada this week. We have had nice fellowship with them and they have been a blessing to the Filipino people. We pray the Lord blesses them back in their home and helps them to come back to the Philippines in 2010.
I will be flying to Manila tomorrow morning and am scheduled to leave Wednesday to fly to Africa where I will be ministering in the nations of Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo. I am scheduled to arrive on March 19th and will stay until April 21st and then fly back to the Philippines. Some of you may have noticed on the news in 2008, that in that year out of the 3 nations in Africa which had the most violence, the 2 nations I am going to were within that top 3. They seem to be much safer this year. I am going there because I have been invited to minister there and feel the leading of the Lord to go. I believe people will be saved, healed, strengthened and encouraged in their faith, and that people will be blessed by the ministry outreaches the Lord allows me to minister in.
I will be working with Pastor Felicilda in the Congo and Pastors James Mabaw, and Alphus Andega in Kenya. They are scheduling a variety of meetings to different ages and groups of people for me to minister to and I believe by the grace and leading of the Lord---we will see many lives touched and transformed in wonderful ways.
Please pray for my wife Emie, our kids: Nonoy, Gracia, Hugh, Faith, Hope, and Joy, and also for all the churches we have pioneered and are helping in the Philippines and for all areas of ministry here and overseas. In regards to my missions journey to Africa please pray for a special anointing of God, for His wisdom, love, and grace to abide in my life and ministry, for God’s powerful protection, for very sufficient financial provision for all areas of the travel here and the ministry outreaches, for good health, and that God will do special miracles during this missions outreach. Emie and I and all the ministry workers over here really appreciate your faithful intercessory prayers.
As I write this newsletter it is about 7:00 P.M. Sunday night and we are still preparing and packing for the trip tomorrow where I will fly to Manila at 6:05 Am. We have a lot to do yet in getting things ready and packed. So I will sign off for now.
Thanks again for your prayers, encouragement, and financial contribution/investments in the ministry outreaches that are helping us lead people to Jesus. Even this morning in the church service 10 people gave their lives to Jesus. God bless you always.
In Christ’s love,
Gordon & Emie

P.S. Please pray for the Lord to raise up 70+ more faithful prayer partners and to touch the hearts of new people to help in investing financially to help us in the ministry outreaches through which we are reaching people for Jesus. Also, we could use some extra help on the African missions trip and please pray for the Lord to touch the hearts of a few people to donate specifically for that outreach. Any of you who the Lord leads to help for Africa, please note on the bottom of the check: “For Africa Missions”. Thanks (2CO 9:6-8)

“CHRIST IN US.” ISSUE NO. 194

January 19th, 2000

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.”

Colossians 1:27 “To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

I Corinthians 15:57-58 “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

Dear Friends,
Greetings once again, in the wonderful name of Jesus. Emie and I pray that the Lord will bless and strengthen you this New Year of 2009 in all your service to Him, and that He will be with you in a more special way than ever before. Proverbs 18:24b “…but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
We can praise God for a New Year which offers new opportunities and new chances to serve Him and do His will. We can also praise God in advance for the new blessings He will pour forth on our lives as we follow Him. In 2009 I believe God intends to do new things as we obey His individual call on our lives. In Isaiah 42:9 God says: “Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; before they spring forth I will tell you.” God intends to do new things in our lives and if we seek Him and listen to Him---He will tell us in advance what He is going to do.
You may not know the way to travel this year in your life, but God does and is willing to help you. In Isaiah 42:16 the Lord states: “I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and the crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, and not forsake them.”
For those who do not see the right direction yet---God says He will bring you on a new path that you had not known. Have you ever tried to walk in the darkness where you cannot even see your hand in front of your face? Well the Lord says that when you feel that way about the direction of your life---He will cause a light to shine on the right path for you. Have any of us ever stumbled because of obstacles in our paths or we have had difficulty because the path seems
twisted and crooked and it takes a long time to get anywhere? Well, as we pray to God, I believe He will make the path straight and well lighted, and enable each of us overcome all obstacles.
I believe the Lord desires to help each of us this New Year of 2009 as well as in the years to come. He loves us and He has a great plan for each of our lives. As we faithfully seek His will and guidance for our individual lives---and we obey Him---each of us will find this year: new successes and new victories---via His grace, mercy, and power. (For with God, nothing will be impossible. L 1:37)
We would like to start out this section by expressing our thanks and gratitude to all of you for your prayers, encouragement, financial investments in the ministry outreaches, and for your friendship. We pray for God’s best blessings upon you in all areas of your lives.
Yesterday we had the Saturday feeding and ministry outreach to the urban poor children in downtown Tacloban. This is just a simple outreach but it gives these kids a meal, and a Sunday school type lessons which result in most of the children coming to know Jesus as their Savior & Lord. They learn basic Bible stories that have lessons that will help them in life, they learn Christian songs to sing unto the Lord, and are taught how to pray to the Lord and trust Him for answers. We have been ministering to many different children in the downtown area for over 12 years now and we believe that as these children grow up and move to various parts of the Philippines and even other nations---that when they have learned how to access God through prayer---they have a great advantage and are safe in His care.
In the several churches which the Lord has led us to pioneer on the islands Biliran, Leyte, and Samar---many children attend the Sunday school meetings and have come to know Jesus as their Savior & Lord, and they are growing in their faith.
Children are a very important part of God’s call on every church’s ministry outreach. In Mark 10:13-16 Jesus was greatly displeased when His disciples tried to hinder the people who were bringing children to meet Him. In vs. 14b Jesus said: “…Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for such is the kingdom of God.” And in vs. 16 it states: And He took them in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.
I was the guest preacher to a church in Tanauan, Leyte today. This church was pioneered by a friend of ours (Pastor Sammy Nebreja) and in just 3 years he has over 200 people attending church services. Here in region 8 (Biliran, Samar, and Leyte islands) it is rare to see that type of church growth because these islands have the lowest percentage of percentage of born-again Christians in the Philippines, and the medium attendance is only about 45 people per church according to a missions survey. We had an anointed church service and were blessed by the presence of God. A lot of people came forward for the alter call, and the Lord met many people’s needs there. It was a blessing to see the work the Lord is doing there and the fruitfulness of pastor Sammy’s faithful labor.
This year we have the increased opportunities to visit and minister in other nations. We have some good contacts in Kenya & D.R. Congo, Africa; in Brazil, South America; Australia; and in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, & Malaysia, S.E. Asia. We hope to visit and minister to people in 3 to 4+ of these nations this year. Emie and I would appreciate your faithful prayers for God’s guidance as to timing and direction in regards to “other nations ministry” this year. Also please pray for many people to be saved and built up in their faith --- and to be better equipped for highly effective service in God’s call on their lives.
In our 1st monthly pastors meeting this year, pastors from most of the 17 churches were in attendance and it was good to join together in prayer and fellowship. We hope to see many new people to come to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord this year in cities, towns, and villages where these pastors and church congregations are ministering. Our weekly radio broadcast is continuing to reach new people for Jesus in a variety of areas.
We have been recently asked to consider pioneering a new church in Guiuan, Samar this year. Emie and I will be visiting that area and praying for God’s guidance and direction. Hopefully this will be an outreach in which we reach more people for the Lord and start & establish a new church (salvation & discipleship center) in Southeastern Samar.
Thanks again for your partnership in helping us lead people to Jesus. We continue to pray for you, your families, and ministries. May this year of 2009 be a year that God does great things in this world and in your life.
In Christ’s love,
Gordon & Emie

P.S. Please pray for us as the Lord specially leads you in regards to the various parts of Eternal Life ministries outreaches. And also please pray for blessings upon our effectiveness and fruitfulness in the ministry, for good health and strength, wisdom, courage, safety, provision for all needs, and for God’s love, joy, and peace to abound in our lives. Thanks and God bless you always.
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond all we can ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. ---Ephesians 3:20-21

Philippine Missions for Jesus needs your prayers

GOD BLESS YOUR NEW YEAR OF 2009
“I came that they might have and enjoy life,
and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” ---Jesus
John 10:10b Amplified

Dear Friends,
Emie and I pray that the Lord bless you and strengthen you this New Year of 2009 in all your service to Him, and that He will be with you in a more special and close way than ever before. Proverbs 18:24b “…but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

For those who cannot not see the right direction yet---God says He will bring you on a new path that you had not known. Have you ever tried to walk in pure darkness where you cannot even see your hand in front of your face? Well God says when you feel that way about the direction of your life---He will cause a light to shine on the right path for you. Have any of us ever stumbled because of obstacles in our paths or had difficulty because the path seems twisted and crooked and it takes a long time to get anywhere? Gordon & Emie

P.S. Please pray for Emie & me, our family, and the ministry workers here in the Philippines as well as for all our ministry partner friends.
